Workshops

We run sets of free workshops to give relatives of people with a learning disability the local and national information they need, including experiences of personalisation, in a supportive setting alongside other family carers.

As well as looking at recent government ideas and laws affecting people with learning disabilities and their families, topics include:

  • Carers rights and issues
  • Fulfilling lives (relationships, work, meaningful activities)
  • Health
  • Housing and support options
  • Money matters (benefits, charging, wills, trusts)
  • Personal and individual budgets, support planning and self directed support

We have been running workshops for 15 years. Generally they are relevant whatever the age of your relative but we also run courses specifically designed to suit a particular phase i.e. preparing for transition into adulthood or facing the future as an older family carer.

We are funded to run several sets of workshops each year and are commissioned to design and deliver others.

For more information or if you would like us to run workshops where you live please contact us on 0117 906 1751 or email familycarersupport@hft.org.uk
