Luv2meetU To Host Valentine Ball

Published: 16/02/12

Tickets have gone on sale for a Valentine Ball in Bradford hosted by Luv2meetU – a friendship and dating agency for people with learning disabilities and their families.

The event takes place on Friday 17th February 2012 at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire and runs from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.  It is open to anyone over the age of 18 in West Yorkshire with a learning disability and their carers or parents.  On the night guests can look forward to music by Selah Sounds and a light buffet.  Tickets are free to members and cost £5 for non members.

Initially set up by learning disability charity, Hft, Luv2meetU is focused on supporting people with learning disabilities and their families to develop and sustain friendships and relationships, helping to improve their overall health and wellbeing and extending their social networks.  The Valentine Ball is the first large scale event to be run by the service in Bradford since its launch in September last year.

Karen England, Project Development Manager said: “The Bradford branch of Luv2meetU is thrilled to be hosting our first major event which has been organised at the request of our members and it promises to be a night to remember.  The ball is open to everyone with learning disabilities and their carers or parents across West Yorkshire so we are hoping to see lots of new faces.”

Luv2meetU, originally known as Stars in the Sky Yorkshire, first began in 2007 as a one year pilot in Leeds and Wakefield which was jointly funded by national learning disabilities charities, Hft and Dimensions UK.  The project was able to continue as a result of funding from the Big Lottery Fund in 2009.  It was developed further two years later by Hft when it became a community interest company and rebranded as Luv2meetU.

Bradford is one of eight Luv2meetU services run across the country with branches in operation in Gloucestershire, Wakefield, Kirklees, Leeds, Sheffield, Calderdale and North East Derbyshire.  The eighth branch is called Hum Tum and has been tailored to meet the needs of the Asian Community in Leeds.

The Bradford service runs three small group events each month, which have been requested by members, with activities ranging from trips to the cinema and bowling to meals out and swimming.
