Flexible Support Service

Hft Bradford has recently developed a Flexible Support Service, designed to help people live the lives they choose.

We recognise that some people require high levels of support but we ensure they have opportunities  to be involved in activities which are meaningful to them. This doesn’t always mean providing one to one support. Our innovative approach means that we can identify people who might have similar interests, allowing people to share support and make their individual budgets go further.

We work with people to identify their interests and skills and match these to our staff.  Rather than using traditional day centre settings, we are now developing new community hubs which lead to greater inclusion in local communities.

Supported Employment

Everyone has the right to work if they want to - our aim is to provide the right support to make it happen.

We have a specialist Supported Employment team, who use a person centred approach to help people decide the   most appropriate type of job for them. Our  job coaches then support them to learn the skills they need and provide support at work.

We work closely with the Workers Education Association and have developed a very successful “Off To Work” programme, which enables people to create their own comprehensive work plan.

Vocational training projects

Hft Bradford also has 5 employment projects, which can help people to develop vocational skills. These range from horticultural skills to a work skills training initiative called E4 Print and Design, which offers a professional printing service to public sector organisations and the wider business community.

We also work in partnership with Keighley Volunteering service and have opened a charity shop, a sorting project and an eBay shop.

Leisure and Learning projects

Our local projects include;

Radio 119 is a project based at  Bradford Community Broadcasting. We have our own fully equipped radio studio, allowing people to be involved in all areas of radio work including interviewing, editing and programme planning. Our programmes are broadcast on BCB 106.6 FM.

Unique Voices is a community based Performing Arts project focusing on all aspects of theatre work from performance skills to front-of-house. The group is based in their own drama centre but also work in the community and in local schools.

Strawberry Arts offers a wide range of visual arts activities. This group has developed its own unique brand of art which has been displayed at a variety of exhibitions. They also work within the exciting media of photography.

Northcliffe Nurseries is a thriving horticulture project where we work alongside Northcliffe Environmental Enterprises Team (NEET), to promote a healthier and more inclusive lifestyle for people with learning disabilities through horticulture. The site has been developed over a number of years and has a sensory garden, bird hide, orchard and a pond and wildlife area. There are a range of polytunnels and the project produces different plants, fruits and flowers for sale.

The Jewels cheerleading group offers people with a learning disability the opportunity to work as part of a team in developing skills within this high energy dance media. So far the team have competed at national competitions in Bournemouth and the World Championships in Florida.

Friendship, Dating & Leisure

If you have a learning disability, it can be difficult to make new friends and get out and about. We run a number of groups and activities locally to support people to meet others who also have a learning disability.

Our friendship and dating agency, Luv2meetU, offers a range of activities across the Bradford district.  Our members tell us what they want to do and we make it happen.

Transitions team

Hft Bradford has a specialist transitions team, offering advice and support to young people  leaving school or college who need support from adult services. We work very closely with a range of people including social workers, teachers, tutors, connexions staff and most importantly the young person and their family.

Domiciliary care

Hft Bradford also offer a range of domiciliary care support services and are registered on Bradford’s Provider Framework. This might mean offering someone support at home, assisting them to get ready for the day or supporting them to have a fulfilled life by taking part in social activities within their community.
