It can be difficult to make new friends and get out and about if you have a learning disability.
Many people feel that meaningful friendships and relationships are the biggest things missing from their lives.
There’s a number of ways we can support you in making friends:
Staying in touch
We can help you stay in touch with friends and family if you’ve moved to a new area or if a day service has closed in your area.
We’re able to support you with using computers to stay in touch, helping you to have an evening with friends at home, or out and about. We can also organise a social group for people in the same situation so you can keep up the relationships that are important to you.
Friendship groups
We run a number of friendship groups around the country where you can meet new friends, have nights out, or even meet a new boyfriend or girlfriend.
Luv2meetU
Our friendship and dating agency Luv2meetU supports people with learning disabilities to make friends, share interests and perhaps find a boyfriend or girlfriend. We offer a range of activities from bowling to swimming, to Sunday lunches. We can also support people to go out on a date if you meet someone you really like.
Luv2meetU runs across England. To find out about local groups and events near you, visit Luv2meetU website.
Hum Tum
Hum Tum is a friendship agency especially for people with learning disabilities from Asian communities in Leeds. Hum Tum is run by Luv2meetU in conjunction with the Asian community organisation Hamara.
Hum Tum offers activities such as Bollywood evenings, Henna painting evenings and male or female only evenings.
Local initiatives
All our local services around the country provide activities and opportunities for making new friends and doing the things you enjoy doing, whether that’s an evening out at a night club, or meeting up for Sunday lunch with a group of friends.
