Hft volunteers use their spare time to make a valuable contribution. Volunteering is about doing something you care about.

We give on the job training and specific support for the type of volunteering you choose.

You could work in one of our charity shops, support adults with learning disabilities or help out with fundraising. You could even get involved in Stars in the Sky Yorkshire, our friendship agency. Whatever you choose, you will find volunteer work with Hft very rewarding.

Check out the volunteering opportunities near you. If you don’t see anything you fancy, email us and we’ll tell you about events coming up.

Fundraising

We run all kinds of events to raise money for Hft. Volunteer to help out at an event near you.

'Time flies when you're baking cakes!'

A day in the the life of Rose White, Volunteer

Rose White, Volunteer It seems like only yesterday that I became an Hft volunteer, but I actually started in 1991. How time flies!

I was really nervous when I came for the interview. I say 'interview' but it was much more informal than that. I was shown around the house and introduced to everyone.

It's always been very varied. One week I'll help cook lunch, another week I'll walk with them to the village shop. I love helping them make cakes and scones for The Tea Cup Cafe. It's a creative intiative set up to include nominal charges, and helps individuals practice basic money skills. The money goes to specially chosen charities.

We always try to do extra baking, putting cakes away for the summer fete, art show and coffee mornings. We've also been asked to run afternoon teas as part of the National Garden Scheme.

Faces have changed over the years, but there's always mess and noise and laughter and fun. What I like most about volunteering is there's no pressure and I always feel valued. The staff are very thoughtful too, including me in all kinds of events and outings. I feel like part of the place.
