We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable person to assist with the running of our residential and supported living units. The successful applicant would be working along side the Unit Manager.
Because of the nature of the post the following are essential/desirable criteria for applications to this position:
- A minimum of 2 years experience of working in learning disabilities services.
- Proven track record of leading a team.
- Experience of supervising staff.
- Able to work flexibly both on own initiative and as part of a team and to be able to adapt to the changing needs of the service.
- Able to pick up a case load of work and manage this with minimal support
- Ability to drive is essential.
- Able to work flexible hours including weekends / evenings and trips away from the service.
- Carry on call responsibilities.
- Have a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities under CQC.

Responsibilities
The post holder has a responsibility to the Services Manager or Assistant Service Manager/Team Manager
Supervision
The post holder will receive direct personal supervision and support from a Team Manager or Assistant Service Manager
Purpose of the Job
The post holder will work within Hft’s Statement of Purpose, CORE values and Policy Guidelines to assist in the creation of an environment in which all individuals receive the highest possible standards of accommodation and support Main Duties and Responsibilities
These may vary according to the needs of the individual and the location of the property. The post holder will be given an outline of responsibilities by the Supported Living Team Manager (or Assistant Services Manager), but will also take on duties on own initiative, in line with the needs and wishes of the people we support.
- At all times maintain a professional approach as well as to support all team members and individuals in the delivers of services
- To carry out key working duties, to offer opportunity of experiences and promote equality for individuals
- To complete, file and communicate relevant and accurate records
- To maintain the confidentiality of information
- To provide and assist the people we support in all aspects of personal care needs as required by their condition, culture and wishes, with sensitivity, respect and dignity
- To contribute to the Person centred approach process with and for the people we support
- To promote the well being and general health of individuals and help create environments in which the individual feels secure
- To participate in medicine administration and recording
- To assist individuals to participate in contract reviews and represent the organisation in respect to service delivery
- To aid the assessment, selection and preparation of individuals for admission to and discharge from the service
- Where appropriate to assist and support the involvement and contact of parents, relatives and friends of the person we support
- To promote lifestyles that reflects the wishes and choices of the people we support whilst maintaining the responsibility of the delivery of the service
- To support individuals in their management of personal finances in line with their PCP and Hft guidelines and care / domiciliary standards
- To contribute to the individual and general development of individuals
- To undertake certain management functions of individuals finances within the schemes. This includes assisting individual individuals in managing daily personal finances (e.g. purchasing clothes, presents)
- To be proactive in supporting the service user in their personal, social, occupational and leisure development through the service and community
- To support individuals to access community facilities and services including where appropriate on holiday both within the UK and abroad. When doing so maintain professional conduct
- To participate in the management of complex or sensitive issues, e.g. challenging behaviour, personal relationships. Where necessary, by offering support, advice and encouragement to individuals
- To know and support others in working within the legislation framework of the Service, e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act
- To undertake sleep ins\on calls or when on waking nights, to remain awake throughout the night to support individuals as determined by the needs of the service
- When required, to escort individuals including accompanying individuals on holiday
- To prepare for and participate in the coaching, supervision and appraisal process within Hft for staff team members on your shift and for yourself
- To create, maintain and enhance productive working relationships by leading a shift
- As required, to contribute to the management of the scheme and to cover in the absence of Unit Manager/Day Services Manager
- To start, reply and maintain contact with other professionals or agencies
- To participate in the assessment of personal development needs, attend training as determined by the organisation including completion of occupational awards
- To drive Hft vehicles to an agreed standard
- To help in maintaining a hygienic and healthy environment. This will include carrying out household cleaning duties
- To participate in learning opportunities relevant to the post
- To carry out appropriate general administrative duties
- To have a duty to adhere to Hft’s health and safety policies, standards and guidelines at all times
- To undertake such other duties as appropriate to your responsibilities, grade and ability.

What you need to be a Senior Support Worker:
Must Have’s:
- Basic training in social work or community work, counselling or care fields (e.g. C&G, Youth & Comm. Cert.) or 2 years experience in care or community work, paid or on a voluntary basis.
- GCSE pass or equivalent in English or Maths ü Knowledge of First Aid, Health & Safety and hygiene issues in the home.
- Experience of working with learning disabilities
- Experience of working in a team.
- Experience of dealing with social work departments, professionals and parents.
- Experience of working with people with autism
