Supporting People with Learning Disabilities

HFT Chesterfield

Pine Bank Day Centre in Chesterfield offers a unique experience in providing a range of person centred opportunities to people with profound and multiple learning disabilities in a small and homely environment.  The service underwent a major refurbishment in May 2005 and now provides a modern accessible building suited to the needs of the service users that attend, including the provision of tracking hoists in key areas throughout the building.

  • The Day Centre provides an inclusive program of experience, activity and learning for service users with profound and multiple learning disabilities.  We work in a person centred way to enable individuals to maximise their daytime opportunities.
  • The centre is within walking distance of a variety of community facilities including the town centre. The centre also has its own specially adapted mini-bus to take service users to and from activities in the community as well as for outings and daytrips.
  • The Day Service is open Monday to Friday from 9.OOam to 4.OOpm, and can provide support to approximately 20 adults each day.
  • HFT work in partnership with Derbyshire County Council in providing a service to meet local and individual need.  
  • All staff receive a high level of training including NVQ in addition to the statutory training required to meet the range of needs presented by the service users that attend.
  • Regular reviews and monitoring of the service take place including consultation with carers and other professional who access the service to ensure that the service provided continues to be a quality service appropriate to the needs of service users.
  • The centre provides a wide range of in-house activities in addition to those that are accessed in the local community.  Activities provided include:
    ICT , Communication skills, Social/Life Skills, Cookery, Health and Fitness, Physiotherapy Programmes, Beauty therapy, Personal care, Music therapy, Snoezelen/Sensory sessions, Arts and Crafts, Educational games and activities and Horticulture.

The activity program Is also supported by external professionals who run a variety of sessions for us throughout the week.
