Statement from Hft CEO Kirsty Matthews in response to the removal of all legal Covid restrictions in England today.
Today the legal obligation to self-isolate after a positive Covid-19 test ends as part of the government’s ‘Living with Covid’ plan. We know this will be concerning for those people with a learning disability who are also clinically vulnerable and remain more at risk from the virus.
Our Lockdown On Loneliness research found that around one third of people with a learning disability hardly ever or never go out to socialise, but with free testing for the general public also set to end, more people with a learning disability will feel unsafe going out to socialise.
We feel people with a learning disability are being left behind. The government must prioritise people with a learning disability for free testing and future vaccinations, as well as publish an impact assessment for their plans.
