About the role
There’s no such thing as a “typical day” here. As a Registered Manager, you will be responsible for leading a “cluster” of services, inspiring your team and putting the tools in place to ensure your services are safe, caring, effective and well led. This is a great opportunity to gain registered status, take on new responsibilities and build your management and leadership skills.
You’ll be managing teams of people and using Hft’s unique, person-centred model to support adults with learning disabilities, enabling them to lead enjoyable, fulfilling lives. Hft gives its Registered Managers significant accountability and opportunity. This is a key role and you’ll have a wide range of responsibilities across several different supported living and residential support services.
Responsibilities cover people management, legislation, compliance and finance. You’ll be managing your own business unit, with accountability to your Regional Manager, who will offer guidance and support.
You will care about how you work in partnership with others, working closely with the people Hft supports and their families, along with your Hft colleagues, local authorities and other agencies. You’ll speak out for the people we support, negotiating the best possible support contracts. You’ll have great scope to innovate, network and make the most of collaborative opportunities.
This is a demanding role for someone who is ready to step up and take their leadership and management skills to the next level. You need to have a Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People Level 5 or equivalent. If not, you will need to be able to achieve this, with our support, within your first 12 months. You’ll also need experience of working with adults with learning disabilities, ideally with people with complex needs. Experience of supervising and managing a team is essential.
You’ll need to ensure that support from your registered services meets all the relevant fundamental standards and you’ll need to demonstrate you understand your legal responsibilities and know what to do to ensure a service is compliant.

This job is important because:
This role is central to the management, delivery and development of high quality, person centred, and legally compliant support across a number of services (expected to be in the region of 600 care hours) and to promoting Hft’s reputation by delivering quality, person centred services, within challenging budgets and governance requirements. It will provide the catalyst to drive and implement all operational change, be the front line management face of Operations, and be instrumental in delivering flexible and individual support packages.

The following are all essential criteria for his role.
Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services level 5 or equivalent, or ability to achieve one within 12 months (see ‘Qualifications’ standard in HR Handbook).
To be the Registered Manager for the cluster of services, or achieve this within six months.
Substantial knowledge of and experience of providing a range of services for adults with learning disabilities.
Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety issues.
Good working knowledge of legislation and guidance relating to adults with learning disabilities.
Experience of working in a social care setting
Experience of working within a set budget, and of understanding and using management accounts.
Experience of managing several cost centres.
Substantial experience of the following: –
Effective and efficient rota design and management.
Assessment and care planning for supported people
Ability to use Microsoft Office and bespoke Hft IT programmes.
Experience of acting as a role model for good care practice, for ensuring high professional care standards are maintained by all staff, and involving the people we support.
Working practice that incorporates the principles of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.
Demonstrates the ability to support and guide staff and supported people to plan services and record progress.
Ability to communicate effectively with a supported person and their family and other professionals.
Ability to direct the case management of everyone your team supports.
Ability to undertake assessment, support planning, recording and report writing.
Ability to form and develop positive professional relationships with all local professionals.
Manage time and resources effectively and efficiently.
Ability to respond professionally, quickly, and flexibly in a crisis.
Must be able to work within the core values, statement of purpose, policies and practice of Hft.
Possession of a valid driving licence, own transport and preparedness to insure and use this for work purposes.
Must be able to stay away from home overnight for reasons such as on-calls, supported persons holidays, management meetings, emergency cover for shifts, and training.
