Career progression
Our staff are central to everything Hft does, so supporting them to develop within their roles and progress their careers is important to us.
Hft combines a range of formal training programmes and experiences to enable people to grow.
Skilled leadership is essential for any organisation. In addition to gaining formal care qualifications, our managers have access to a comprehensive programme to help them both do their jobs as effectively as possible and in their overall career development.
Training includes:
- Managing, developing and recruiting staff
- Effective meetings
- Planning, managing and delivering projects
- Time management
- Growing local business
- Negotiating and influencing
Managers are given the opportunity to study for recognised leadership and business management qualifications. Additionally, our active work shadowing and mentoring programme means managers can learn from more experienced staff.
As well as skills development through training, staff are encouraged to take on additional responsibilities and apply for more senior roles as and when opportunities arise.
A number of Hft’s Area Managers have developed their careers within Hft in this way, including Matt Driver, an Area Manager for Hft Sheffield and Derbyshire.
Starting with Hft in 2000 as a Support Worker, Matt has developed his career through a number of roles, including Team Manager and Assistant Service Manager, before becoming an Area Manager. As well as achieving his own care and management qualifications, Matt has also supported and created learning programmes for students studying for social care qualifications.
“Hft is a very encouraging, supportive organisation to work for. The management training in particular has been great, you learn a lot about yourself and your own management style.”
