Anne’s knitted poppies to brighten church on Remembrance Sunday

A church tower in Cornwall is to feature a glorious display of poppies this Remembrance Sunday – thanks to the handiwork of a keen knitter

Anne, who attends Hft’s Resource Centre in Wadebridge, has been busy with the needles crafting the knitted poppies which will feature as part of a display at Egoshayle Church.

Anne took up knitting earlier this year, initially making colourful scarves.

Anne sold some of her scarves at the resource centre’s summer fair, with visitors at the event snapping them up ready to wear during the winter months.

A friend of Anne’s showed her how to knit the poppies.

“I really enjoy knitting,” said Anne.

“It helps keep my hands supple and my brain active and I am pleased that they are being used in the church Remembrance Display.”

Anne will continue her knitting of scarves, some of which will be given to friends and family as Christmas gifts.

The resource centre runs a number of activities for people supported by the service, including a photography club and drama group.

Those attending the centre also enjoy gardening and cooking and craft sessions.

Hobbies for learning disabled people can offer numerous benefits including improved mental health and wellbeing, social connections and personal development.
