Elvis rocks around the clock at Hitchin Road

The King of Rock n Roll was most definitely IN the building!

Music lover David Gavin ‘rocked around the clock’ when Elvis made a special visit to help him celebrate his birthday.

Elvis impersonator Pete Webb pulled on his catsuit and blue suede shoes for a party at Hft’s residential service, 117 Hitchin Road in Shefford, to mark David’s 44th birthday.

Although David is non-verbal, music and dancing is one of his greatest loves and at a previous performance by Pete, he danced non-stop.

The party was attended by David’s mum Karren and his sister Michelle who had travelled over from Australia.

It was the first time in several years the siblings had seen one another.

People supported at Hitchin Road also attended the party, enjoying the music along with drinks, cakes and snacks.

“It was a wonderful afternoon for David’s birthday,” said 117 Hitchin Road Service Manager Claire Davies-Sond.

“The last time Pete came in to perform, David was on his feet dancing the whole time

“It was clear that the music was something he really enjoyed so we thought we’d invite Pete back to celebrate David’s birthday.

“Once again, David didn’t stop dancing. He had a great time celebrating his special day.”

Tracks performed by Pete included Jailhouse Rock, The Wonder of You and Suspicious Minds.

Pete also performed a version of Sweet Caroline with the adults supported at Hitchin Road as part of their 1.5 fundraising challenge.

The challenge, which ran throughout August, saw people supported at Hitchin Road record a song of their choice each day, videoing a 1.5 minute clip of the performance and asking families and friends to donate to watch it.

During August 15 songs were recorded. The money raised from the videos will go towards providing a new sensory hub in the garden – expected to cost around £4,000.

The party was topped off with a fish and chip supper.

“Pete always goes down a storm when he performs for us here at Hitchin Road,” said Claire, who also danced with the catsuit clad impersonator.

“We can’t wait for the next party.”
