40 years of support from – and for – Hft
As we’ve shared before, James, who is supported by Hft in Herts & Essex, is part of a family of Hft Heroes, who have collectively dedicated a huge amount of time and energy for our charity. Mike, Heather, Sarah and James Stiff have together raised hundreds of thousands of pounds of donations, and acted as ambassadors for Hft, promoting our work and helping raise our profile through events, talks, selling over *£158k* worth of Christmas Cards over a period of 20 years, not forgetting finding time to write a book, with the £10k+ of profits being donated to our charity.
As part of our #Hft60 celebrations, Mike has kindly shared some of his memories, showing just how much James has achieved over the past 40 years, including newspaper clippings, ‘big cheques’ and recognition from Buckingham Palace!
As Mike says: “As well as the physical endeavours that James has gone through and the achievements that he’s accomplished, he’s also displayed an amazing amount of dedication and concentration to see them through each time. James has cycled not once, but twice from Land’s End to John O’Groats, training for three months each time – in all weathers – to get fit enough to cycle up to 75 miles a day for 14 consecutive days – all to raise money and awareness for Hft. The endeavour, concentration and commitment cannot start to be appreciated.”
Indeed, James’ sponsored bike rides in 1987 and 2001 together raised £77,470, which would equate to over £207,000 today – an amazing feat!
Huge thanks again to the whole family!
