Stars of Hitchin Road dazzle with music, magic and dance in annual talent show

From Elvis classics to Abba hits, audiences enjoyed stand out performances at the service’s annual showcase.

Dancers, singers and even a magician wowed the audience at Hitchin Road’s annual talent showcase.

People supported at the residential service rehearsed for several weeks ahead of taking to the stage for the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ extravaganza.

The entertainment included a quiz by Hitchin Road’s very own quizmaster, John, who also performed a rendition of Shine by his favourite band Take That.

Susan wowed the crowd with her performance of Love Me Tender by Elvis Presley while Christopher sang Give Me a Reason by Pink and David showed off his impressive dancing talents to Rock Your Body by the Black Eyed Peas.

Sally shared her Makaton skills before delighting the audience of family and friends with a dance to a track by Ollie Murs – one of her favourite musicians.

There were magic tricks from Adrian who then went on to showcase some impressive basketball moves.

Alistair made sure Hitchin Road rocked out with a stand out performance on the drums while Jenny delighted the crowds with a performance of the Abba hit Dancing Queen.

Alistair also shared cakes he had made with the audience, which went down a treat.

The showcase even welcomed some very famous judges – BGT stalwarts Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden.

All the performances were given the ‘green buzzer’ by the judges – aka Deputy Manager Hayley and Senior Support worker Helen – who said it was ‘impossible’ to crown a winner.

Simon told the performers ‘I didn’t like it – I loved it.’

“I knew we had some serious talent at Hitchin Road, but these performances blew Amanda and I away.”

Christopher said: “I had a lot of fun singing and want to do it again next year.”

All performers were presented with their own special BGT medal.

A special cake marking the show was also made and enjoyed by the performers, colleagues and family and friends at a post-show celebration buffet.

The show was also attended by Hitchin Road’s very own Mayor – Ken Pollard.

“The talent on show at Hitchin Road made for a very enjoyable afternoon,” said Ken.

“Everyone had obviously worked very hard and put a lot of effort into their performances.

The show forms part of the annual awards day at Hitchin Road where Hft colleagues are recognised for their achievements over the year, with nominations made by families and co-workers.

Hitchin Road Service Manager Claire Davies-Sond said: “We are always doing something fun at 117, but one of my favourite things is our annual awards show which has a different theme each year.

“This year was Britain’s Got Talent and we kitted out one of our communal areas to look like the what we see on the TV, inclusive of the judges!

“The staff who supported were incredible and really gave their all.

“I have many proud moments as a manager, but I just know on our awards day, I am always going to burst with pride.”
