We’re celebrating love and friendship this Valentine’s Day by reflecting on one of Luv2meetU’s biggest success stories.
Set up in 2007, Luv2meetU is an award-winning friendship and dating agency for adults with learning disabilities, part-owned by Hft. The service is based in Bradford, but operates across a number of regions, running events and outings that focus on increasing confidence, having fun, making friends, and sometimes even finding love!
With over 250 members, the service has sparked friendship and romance far and wide. Read on to find out more about Scarlett and John, who got together through Luv2meetU.
West Yorkshire-based couple Scarlett and John first met at a Luv2meetU event back in early 2017. Although John was a little shy at first, Scarlett plucked up the courage to ask him out on a first date.
Chaperoned by a Luv2meetU staff member, Scarlett and John found they had an immediate connection during their first get-together, with Scarlett’s extroverted personality complementing John’s gentle nature.
After hitting it off, the pair continued to get to know each other at a range of Luv2meetU events, including meals out, cinema visits, nature walks and day trips.
The happy couple have been together ever since and, nearly two years on, see each other three times a week, balancing their relationship with John’s rugby commitments and Scarlett’s Maths and English college courses. Favourite activities for the pair range from sampling different restaurants to going to the cinema, as well as lots of time on the local rugby pitch, where John plays for the Castleford Tigers.
Scarlett said:
“Luv2meetU helped me find the right person for me. We’ve settled down and have plans for the future, but are taking things slowly. Staff were great at setting up dates – we went for a coffee first and they were there to help us. We went for a meal together on our second date and things progressed from there. I still recommend Luv2meetU to all my friends.”
John said:
“I’ve recently moved out of supported accommodation and into my own house. I’m so happy that Scarlett can visit me in my own place. When Scarlett comes to my house I get a funny feeling in my belly, she makes me really happy, and I’m happy when she is with me.”
Although they no longer need the services of Luv2meetU, Scarlett and John are the first to say that life would have been very different without it.
