Learning Disability Assistive Technology project (LDAT)
We worked in partnership with Bristol City Council and We Care and Repair (WCR), an award-winning home improvement agency supporting older people and people with a disability, to deliver personalised technology assessments, training and installations of technology to people with learning disabilities and their carers. The project was funded by the Department of Health’s Housing and Technology Grant.
The project aimed to support people with learning disabilities living in Bristol to live as independently as possible. The identified outcomes were:
- Promoting independence, choice and control for individuals: support people with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible with the right care and support.
- Reducing and preventing adults with learning disabilities from entering inappropriate services: support adults with learning disabilities, and their carers, who require urgent housing and are at risk of entering inappropriate services such as inpatient and registered care services.
- Mainstreaming of the use of assistive technology in the learning disabilities and housing pathway: increase the total number of adults with learning disabilities supported to live in their own homes, specifically people with complex needs or challenging behaviours.
