Hft is calling for customers at John Lewis in Cheltenham to use the green tokens they collect when they shop to vote for the cause.

Hft has been chosen as one of three charities that customers can support at the High Street store from 1 August to 31 October as part of John Lewis’s Community Matters initiative.

Following their purchase, shoppers are able to cast their vote using a token, with the relevant proportion of a £3,000 fund donated to each cause at the end of the quarter.

Hft runs services across the country including in Stroud, Gloucester and Cirencester. Services provided locally range from supporting adults with learning disabilities to live independently in their own homes, to helping people to pursue hobbies, make new friends and get involved in their local communities.

Lucie Perryman, Fundraising Officer at Hft, said:

“We’re delighted to have been chosen as one of the charities being supported by John Lewis this quarter. Fundraised income provides us with vital funds, and money raised as a result of this scheme will help us in our mission to support people with learning disabilities to live the best life possible. Every token counts, so we’re asking shoppers to find out more about what we do locally and lend their support.”

To support a charity, pick up a token at the John Lewis store in Cheltenham.

About Hft

Proudly established in 1962 by a group of visionary parents, Hft is a charity supporting more than 2,500 learning disabled adults in England and Wales. Together, we are creating a future where learning disabled people and their families can live the best life possible.

Providing personalised support. Creating solutions for living independently. Coming together to campaign for positive change. Fundraising for new opportunities and a bigger impact.

In 2033, we’ll live in a world where learning disabled people have greater choice. About where they live. The support they need and want. And how to spend their time and money.

Learning disability versus difficulty

A learning disability is different from a learning difficulty but the terms are often confused and used inter-changeably. A learning difficulty does not affect general intellect, whereas a learning disability is a life-long condition characterised by a reduced intellectual ability and struggle with everyday activities.
