Learning disability charity’s ‘BestFest’ raises £2,000 for Cornwall services
Learning disability charity Hft’s Resource Centre in Wadebridge recently hosted more than 250 members of the local community for a brand new one-day festival called ‘BestFest’.
The idea was suggested by the learning disabled people supported at the Resource Centre to create a more modern and lively version of its traditional annual garden party and BestFest turned out to be exactly that.
“The day was a huge success and everyone who attended had a fantastic time,” says Olly Mitchell, Day Services Manager. “The live music, mocktails, BBQ and a beauty bar were just a few of the attractions on offer during the day.”

Numerous Hft services had their own stalls too, raising money for their services all across Cornwall. In total, nearly £2,000 was raised and the Wadebridge service will use its portion of the funds to update the dining room.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came through our gates on the day and we can’t wait to see you all for BestFest 2025,” says Olly.

About Hft
Proudly established in 1962 by a group of visionary parents, Hft is a charity supporting more than 2,500 learning disabled adults in England and Wales. Together, we are creating a future where learning disabled people and their families can live the best life possible.
Providing personalised support. Creating solutions for living independently. Coming together to campaign for positive change. Fundraising for new opportunities and a bigger impact.
In 2033, we’ll live in a world where learning disabled people have greater choice. About where they live. The support they need and want. And how to spend their time and money.
Learning disability versus difficulty
A learning disability is different from a learning difficulty but the terms are often confused and used inter-changeably. A learning difficulty does not affect general intellect, whereas a learning disability is a life-long condition characterised by a reduced intellectual ability and struggle with everyday activities.
