A charity lunch featuring former Blue Peter star Valerie Singleton has raised £10,000 for a Bedfordshire learning disability service run by Hft.
The bumper cheque was presented to the charity on 12 June by the Rotary Club of Bedford Castle, with funds set to go towards a garden renovation for people supported at an Hft day opportunities centre in Bedfordshire. Plans to extend the centre’s patio area and install an accessible trampoline and swing have now been given the go-ahead to start. More than 50 people attend the popular service, which offers activities including pottery, dance and art.
Funds for the renovation were raised at a charity lunch featuring TV legend Valerie Singleton in March, where the former Blue Peter presenter shared stories from her five decades in showbiz.
Peter Cullum, President of the Rotary Club of Bedford Castle, said:
“We’re delighted to be able to present Hft with the funds needed to build a vital new space for adults with learning disabilities to enjoy. The fundraising lunch back in March was a huge success, with all attendees pleased to be able to support such an important local cause.”
