Barnsley Village Festival raises cash for Christmas celebration

A community came together for its annual village day – which has raised money for learning disability charity Hft.

Crowds of hundreds packed into the annual Barnsley Village Festival in Gloucestershire, with activities such as live music, stalls, country dancing and a BBQ.

There was also Morris Dancing and a tombola and an open gardens trail.

This year some of the money raised at the event will go to the charity Hft.

Twelve adults with learning disabilities are supported across two services in the village, Benoni and 107.

Hft Deputy Service Manager , Jennifer Newton, lives in the village and helped out at the event.

Jennifer, who joined Hft in August, put forward Hft as a potential benefactor of funds raised at the festival.

The cash will go towards a Christmas party for the people we support at the two sites.

We wanted to do something for Christmas where we could celebrate the season together,” said Jennifer.

“And we all decided a party was a great idea.

“We are very grateful for the support of the Barnsley Village Festival and all involved in making it such a wonderful day.”

Jennifer is also planning to organise a Mary Poppins tea party to boost the funds further.
