A local drama group is set to bring some magic to Lympne this festive season, as it prepares to put on a very special pantomime performance of the fairy tale classic Snow White.
The group of adults with learning disabilities, all supported by Hft, return to the stage after a sell-out performance last Christmas, when they raised nearly £600.
Tickets for the performance on 2 December have already been selling fast, with families of the actors and members of the public keen to come along and join in the fun. The show will be followed by refreshments, a raffle and a tombola, as well as a festive carol concert hosted by the local church choir.
People supported at the service decided to put the money raised last year towards putting on a bigger and better show this year, with people supported by the charity enjoying new sets and costumes. Led by service manager Susan Mifsud – who is stepping into Snow White’s shoes – the dedicated performers have been busy rehearsing since May.

Susan Mifsud, Registered Cluster Manager for the region, is looking forward to the performance:
“Our pantomime is a highlight of the calendar for members of the group, their families and their support workers. For the adults with learning disabilities starring in the show, the event presents a chance to show off their hard work, boost their confidence and have a lot of fun.
“Now that we’re just a few weeks away, we’ve done full dress rehearsals and sound checks. The stars of the show are really coming alive in their roles.
“Audiences should expect the unexpected as we take to the stage this Christmas. One performer has very little speech and overcame her nerves to star in last year’s show, bringing her brother close to tears. This year she’s working hard to memorise a couple of lines, a huge achievement which will increase her confidence enormously.”
Hft Kent South currently supports around 60 people with various needs. Locally it offers person-centred services ranging from flexible day support to supported living at home – from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day.
Hft’s Snow White pantomime takes place on Sunday 2 December from 13:00 until 15:30 at Lympne Village Hall. Tickets for adults cost £3.00 and tickets for children are £1.50. Tickets can be purchased on the door or by contacting Susan Mifsud at 07825377914 or on susan.mifsud@hft.org.uk

About Hft
Proudly established in 1962 by a group of visionary parents, Hft is a charity supporting more than 2,500 learning disabled adults in England and Wales. Together, we are creating a future where learning disabled people and their families can live the best life possible.
Providing personalised support. Creating solutions for living independently. Coming together to campaign for positive change. Fundraising for new opportunities and a bigger impact.
In 2033, we’ll live in a world where learning disabled people have greater choice. About where they live. The support they need and want. And how to spend their time and money.
Learning disability versus difficulty
A learning disability is different from a learning difficulty but the terms are often confused and used inter-changeably. A learning difficulty does not affect general intellect, whereas a learning disability is a life-long condition characterised by a reduced intellectual ability and struggle with everyday activities.
