Using the Mental Capacity Act

About the Mental Capacity Act 2005

The Mental Capacity Act is designed to make a real difference to the lives of people who lack mental capacity.

It empowers people to make decisions for themselves, and it puts people at the heart of the decision-making process. It also makes sure that the person involved has as much say as possible in any decisions made on their behalf, and those made in their best interest.

Who is this guide for?

We’ve made this resource for the family and friends of learning disabled people. By the end of the guide, you should have a better understanding of how the Act affects you and those you care about.
