Golf enthusiasts are preparing to tee off as celebrity hairdresser Andrew Collinge hosts the sixteenth annual fundraiser for national learning disability charity Hft. Taking place on 25 September, the event is set to raise vital funds for the charity.

Keen golfers will enjoy the chance to spend the day at the prestigious Royal Liverpool Golf Club, which has been the venue for many Open Championships and in September will host the 49th Walker Cup. It was also recently announced that the Open will return to the club in 2022.

Entry for a four-person team includes an 18 hole round of golf with prizes, a putting competition and prize giving ceremony, along with a goody bag and breakfast and lunch for each attendee. The event is sponsored by TIGI haircare products and Andrew Collinge Hairdressing, with all money raised going towards supporting adults with learning disabilities.

In previous years the day has raised over £250,000 which has helped to make various initiatives possible, including a supported employment scheme and a hair and beauty salon in Bradford where people with learning disabilities can train and learn new skills.

Andrew Collinge says:

“The Hft Golf Day is always a very special day. Raising funds for Hft, who do such fantastic work supporting adults with learning disabilities is essential in these challenging times. I would like to thank everyone who supports the day and look forward to welcoming those that will be playing in the Hft Golf Day for the first time – you are in for a real treat.”

Patricia Worsnop, Fundraising Officer, said:

“We’re hoping to see plenty of keen golfers getting into the swing of it at this year’s Hft Golf Day. Events like these are always a highlight of the year for golf fans, offering a chance to compete and socialise, all while helping us to support people with learning disabilities to live the best life possible.”

Hft supports people with learning disabilities through a range of services across the country, including its North West region, which spans from Bradford to Lancashire and across to Cheshire and Merseyside and Flintshire. The charity provides person-centred services ranging from flexible day support to supported living at home – from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day.

About Hft

Proudly established in 1962 by a group of visionary parents, Hft is a charity supporting more than 2,500 learning disabled adults in England and Wales. Together, we are creating a future where learning disabled people and their families can live the best life possible.

Providing personalised support. Creating solutions for living independently. Coming together to campaign for positive change. Fundraising for new opportunities and a bigger impact.

In 2033, we’ll live in a world where learning disabled people have greater choice. About where they live. The support they need and want. And how to spend their time and money.

Learning disability versus difficulty

A learning disability is different from a learning difficulty but the terms are often confused and used inter-changeably. A learning difficulty does not affect general intellect, whereas a learning disability is a life-long condition characterised by a reduced intellectual ability and struggle with everyday activities.
