Golfers are being invited to tee off for a popular fundraiser in aid of Hft, a national charity supporting adults with learning disabilities to live the best life possible.

Teams of four will be taking to the fairways of Royal Liverpool Golf Club on 26 September for the fifteenth annual Hft Golf Day.

All the money raised from this year’s event will be used to help fund a new employment initiative in Flintshire. Project SEARCH supports adults with learning disabilities aged 18-25 to source work placements so they can gain the experience and skills necessary to find work.

Entry costs £1000 per team and includes a round of golf with prizes, a putting competition and prizegiving ceremony, along with a goody bag and breakfast and lunch for each attendee.

This year’s event aims to raise £14,000 and is sponsored by TIGI haircare products and Andrew Collinge Hairdressing.

Andrew Collinge said: “The Hft Golf Day at Royal Liverpool Golf Club is always a very special day. Raising funds for Hft and everyone involved within the organisation who do such fantastic work supporting adults with learning disabilities is essential in these challenging times. I would like to thank everyone who supports the day and look forward to welcoming those that will be playing in the Hft Golf Day for the first time – you are in for a real treat.”

Hft supports people with learning disabilities through a range of services across the country, including its North West region, which spans from Bradford to Lancashire and across to Cheshire and Merseyside, including new day opportunities in Flintshire. The charity provides person-centred services ranging from flexible day support to supported living at home – from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day.

Fundraising Manager Jill Kirkham said:

“We’re delighted to be running our popular golf day for the fifteenth year. Events like these are a great way to raise money for Hft, allowing us to support adults with learning disabilities to live the best life possible and providing a fun-filled day out for any golf enthusiast!”

About Hft

Proudly established in 1962 by a group of visionary parents, Hft is a charity supporting more than 2,500 learning disabled adults in England and Wales. Together, we are creating a future where learning disabled people and their families can live the best life possible.

Providing personalised support. Creating solutions for living independently. Coming together to campaign for positive change. Fundraising for new opportunities and a bigger impact.

In 2033, we’ll live in a world where learning disabled people have greater choice. About where they live. The support they need and want. And how to spend their time and money.

Learning disability versus difficulty

A learning disability is different from a learning difficulty but the terms are often confused and used inter-changeably. A learning difficulty does not affect general intellect, whereas a learning disability is a life-long condition characterised by a reduced intellectual ability and struggle with everyday activities.
